TONSILLITIS
Tonsillitis refers to an inflammation of the tonsils. It may be acute or chronic. The symptoms can include pain and sore throat, fevers, difficulty swallowing and ear pain. It may arise from viral or bacterial infection and often requires antibiotics.
It can be a debilitating condition, and severely impact on school, study, work and social engagements. It has been regarded that 5 or more episodes of tonsillitis per year deserve strong consideration of removing the tonsils (tonsillectomy). More important however, is the nature of the episodes and how severe the symptoms have become.
Tonsillectomy is a common adult and children's ENT operation. If deemed necessary, your surgeon will discuss all of the issues related to the surgery and what to expect during your recovery.
